Steven Tomassetti, of Poughkeepsie, was arrested around 4:50 a.m., on Sunday, Sept. 1, after Putnam County deputies responded to Flory's Mobil on Bryant Pond Road in Putnam Valley, said the Sheriff's Office.

According to the department, Deputies Matthew Shelters and Robert Detlefs responded to the scene and found Tomassetti and his 23-year-old girlfriend having a domestic dispute in the parking lot of the gas station, police said.

An investigation found that Tomasetti hit his girlfriend multiple times in the face and took her cell phone to prevent her from calling 911, the deputies reported.

Tomassetti had also been driving a vehicle on Wood Street, with a license that had seven total suspensions, the department said.

He was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, preventing or disabling a person from requesting emergency assistance, harassment/physical contact, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

In addition, he was charged with an aggravated family offense due to the fact that he was previously convicted of a family offense within the last five years.

He is being held at the Putnam County Correctional Facility.
